About Us

Another Way Forward is the brainchild of Rev. Joy and Richard Gartside.

Rev. Joy Gartside is a Wheelchair user after an industrial accident in 1995 left her with a lower back injury. Although not permanently in a wheelchair, it provides the flexibilty to acheive tasks others see as "normal". Despite having dyslexia, scotopic vision, dyscalculia and Attention Deficit Syndrome (ADS) and being written off at school as "lazy, and never going to acheive much"; Joy went on to get a Honours Degree in Art and Design with History of Art at Northampton University.
Richard Gartside has been married to Rev. Joy since 2001, and also has a parent with Multiple Sclerosis. In one form or another, he has been a carer for a large part of his adult life. Richard was diagnosed with dyspraxia in 1979 following a car accident in 1976. Richard is a graduate of the European Business and Technology Degree program of Coventry University.
Richard provides the design and technical 'knowhow' behind the site, and is complemented by the artistic skills of Joy.
